But I feel that I have to let you know what goes on here in Romania. I am extremely down and depressed by yesterday’s goings on. I think you’ll understand why.
Cat was handed in to an orphanage when a couple of days old. She was a pretty little baby with huge brown eyes and a head of curly brown hair. Before she was a year old she was adopted by a family, encouraged by the State paying them a small amount of money every month. But it wasn’t long before Cat was surplus to requirements and was left on the street in her pyjamas before she was four years old. She was picked up by a gypsy family and abused for several years. She ended up in what’s called a “Placement Centre”. These are institutions where children are cared for who are either orphans or from families who cannot afford to look after the children, or victims of abuse. We have had a very close working relationship with a Placement Centre in Valenii de Munte for many years.
I first met Cat when she was just 12. Already she looked like she was 15 and she talked openly about all her boyfriends. She was very street wise for such a young age. I took her for Pizza and talked to her about God loving her and the fact that she had intrinsic value. I met her twice in all and tried to let her know how valuable she was. She always had a huge smile and a mischievous smile. And those big brown eyes….
Then suddenly she wasn’t in the Placement centre any longer that we worked with. They couldn’t tell me where she had gone. For two years I heard nothing from her and then about three months ago I got a message from her on Yahoo Messenger saying she would love to see me again. By chance I was heading to Romania three days later with a David Phelps tour, so we arranged for her to come down to Bucharest with some other kids she used to know from the Valenii Placement centre.
She’s 15 now and tells me shes’ in another centre , but that the State were insisting she go back to live with her Mother. But her Mother had told her she’d be better off dead than coming home to live. This was the same Mother who had left her on the Street. We bought her a cell phone so that she could keep in touch and tell us if she was in any trouble.
I introduced all the kids to David after the concert and told him each of their brief stories. He was very taken by Cat, and as they left he called her back and had a special word for her. He told her to believe that the future could be bright, that there was always hope and that she was loved. She told me afterwards how much it meant to her. David told me how much she had touched her heart, that a beautiful little girl like that could feel so unloved.
The day came when she was taken home to live. Her Mother fought and screamed at the Social Assistant who took her, but she was still left there to live.
We kept in touch on a daily basis and things seemed not too bad, but then the news that Cat had run away from home again. Or so we were told, because no-one really knew where she was. Those of you who read my Facebook posts will remember that a few weeks ago I posted that I had had a deeply disturbing day. That was the day.
I came back to Romania three days ago and two days before that I found out that Cat was now in a special high security emergency centre. Because I have contacts in the Welfare system here they had agreed that I could go see her.
Yesterday we pulled up outside unmarked gates with high barbed wire. We were ushered into a very old dark building which obviously hadn’t seen paint in 30 years. It was an extremely depressing place, bars on every window. If you know Romania you can picture it.
We waited in a crèche which had a few old broken toys scattered about and worn carpet on the floor. Catty was duly sent for and entered a few minutes later. Dressed only in ill fitting pyjamas, gone was the smile and the spark.
Tears came to her big eyes as she hugged me and called me her Dad and told me she loved me. She related what had happened.
Things had gone ok with her Mum for a few days, but then became strained. Her Mum started again to tell her she’d be better off living on the streets or even dead. Her Mum broke her phone.
A couple of older guys befriended her and then after about three days they turned ugly. They told her to get her bag packed when her Mum was at work and to steal anything from the house that was of value. They gave her an hour or told her they would torch the house and hurt her family. She’s 15, what’s she to do? She does what they tell her.
They took her away and locked her up in a room with several other young girls that they have kidnapped. I don’t want to go into details from here on because they are too disturbing. But the next 10 days see her forced to work as a prostitute for ten hours a day. She’s 15 for God’s sake! The same age as my youngest daughter. She can’t talk about the horror.
Her captors then move her to Bucharest as they suspect the authorities have word about them. Turns out they are an organized gang of traffickers who are well known to authorities.
By a twist of fate the place she is being forced to work in Bucharest is raided by the police looking for something completely different and she’s rescued.
But the ludicrous thing is that she’s now being held in this emergency centre for her own safety, but is treated as if it was her fault. I’m not allowed to write to her. Or her to me. If I call they say there’s no-one here of that name. She’s never allowed out of the building. It’s mindblowing.
She tells me that just the day before our visit she was thinking it was all over, that no-one cares anymore. What was the point in going on? Then the next day Erika (my assistant in Romania) and I appear to visit her. She hugs me in the hallway of the centre for a long time and any other children who walk past she says to them, “Please meet my Father”. I don’t like spiritualizing things, but I truly believe we were meant to be there.
Folks my heart is broken and as I write this the tears are flowing. They’ve been flowing on and off for 24 hours. I’m sitting in Sinaia with 12 other young kids that we have worked with for years. What’s the future for them in this ludicrous place?
I hope you don’t mind me being blunt, but I need your help. I’ve funded the stuff we do here for a long time, but I need help now. Those of you who know me know my heart and know that you can trust what we do. We’re an officially registered charity.
We need to fix up our house in Sinaia which is starting to show its age. We need this house here to continue to bring the kids on breaks where we can teach them how to best live in this country and how to be safe. And to teach them that God loves them. And we need funds for feeding them, for the mini-bus to get them around and on and on.
Please pray for Cat. I lay in bed last night and stared at the ceiling as I thought of her lying in bed alone, with no-one to care for her, probably replaying all that had happened to her. She has no family in the world. No-one but me now. She needs our prayers. More than I can express.
If you can help financially, please send something through paypal to trevor@friendlyfaces.co.uk. If you want to let me know your thoughts on what I've written, please do so to the same eamil address. I feel at the moment as if all we are doing here is re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Perry Marshall's 40th birthday sale

Children

My mind's been focused on children ever since I came back from Haiti.
My oldest daughter turns 17 this week as well, so I've been thinking back to things over the years. I remember when I was first offered the chance to promote Art Garfunkel in Belfast. I had no history in business - I'd had about 15 jobs in three years at the time. It was a HUGE decision for me. Thankfully I decided to take the plunge. But next time I got offered a big artist it was easier to take the gamble. Now a whole UK tour doesn't seem like much of a gamble if the artist is right.
But you must take a small gamble before a big gamble will ever seem to make sense. If I hadn't taken that first step I can't believe what I would have missed out on.
So if you're considering trying something new or risky, I'd encourage you to take the plunge. Not blindly, weigh things up, sure - but if there's a good chance of success don't let fear hold you back. Take a chance - when you're lying on your death bed it's mainly the things you didn't do that you'll regret.

One sure way to screw your self-image

About 18 months ago I went to see a pastor. I'd been feeling depressed and down for quite some time. I came out of that meeting with new optimism. A new feeling of self worth. Promises were made. But sadly, the pastors promises to me were never kept. I'd say worse than that, I'd say they were trampled in the dirt. They meant nothing.
The result? I've allowed myself to feel worthless at times ever since. I had put my self worth into someone else's hands.
Well, I'm taking it back. I'm not letting anyone else make me feel like I'm crap because I don't fit their mould. Truth is on reflection, I wouldn't want to fit that mould. I always knew the theory that if you make God your significant other, you wont struggle with self image. But theory can fall by the wayside when reality seems to scream something different. And that Pastor loudly screamed that I wasn't worth his time.
Is there someone in your life who is making you feel you are not worthy? Well take away from them the authority to do that any more. God loves and adores you. Why should your "pastor" figure be allowed to make you feel you're not worthy? Or your wife, husband, Mum or Dad? Wrestle back the responsibility for how you feel about yourself, and give it to God. You'll feel a whole lot better!

Haiti

Some of you will know that I go to Haiti on Saturday. I read all 250 pages in one day. Fabulous book. Wonderful man.
I've been involved in promoting Christian music for over 25 years. When I was asked to do the Gaithers last year, various people around me thought I'd lost the plot. They weren't current, they weren't cool. Well this much I can tell you. A more genuine, nicer, more committed bunch of people I have yet to meet, never mind work with. I've worked with many of the current CCM stars, and they're not fit to polish Mr G's boots! As a promoter you do get to see people as they really are. Sometimes it can take a few years, but you get there in the end. Sometimes you wish you didn't.
At the age of 72, Bill's still going strong. After more than 25 MILLION DVD's and another 25 MILLION albums. Congratulations Sir, it could not happen to a nicer man.

Another one gone

Well Christmas rushed past as usual. Not grateful to me or their Mum, but grateful to God. The boys aren't really old enough to appreciate what they have in relation to other kids around the world. They can appreciate they have a laptop when the kid beside them in school doesn't, but they can't really appreciate a warm bed, food when they want it, hugs from Mum and Dad and so on. Or freedom to talk openly about Jesus.

Yet I as an adult can forget to be grateful for exactly the same things.

It truly is the simplest things that make us happiest. I had a meeting arranged with the notary this morning at 9.30pm, but I chickened out at the last minute. I was due to hand over 6 grand of a deposit and I just didn't have any peace about the whole thing. It's now 10.30 at night and I've eventually decided to go ahead. It was a long hard day deliberating. But sometimes we need to take a step of faith without having the peace we desire, and that's the case here. We work with a lot of young ladies in a Placement centre in Valenii de Munte. The centre looks after the girls until they are 18 (or until they have to leave school if earlier or later). But when they become 18, they are on the streets if they have no family. Literally out on the street. So it doesn't take much imagination to see where they will probably end up.

So my dream (and it's going to happen soon!) is to build a home where half a dozen of these girls can call home and can learn life skills, moral values and get to know about Jesus. Romania is a growing economy at the moment and property values are rising. So could we get some well-off Christian people to fund this house, with the promise of getting their money back in 5 years? At that stage someone else takes over the investment. It's just a thought, but I think it can work.

When researching it on the internet I found an amazing site called Kiva, it's KIVA.ORG. Have a look at the amazing work that they are doing.

Larry's gone

Most of you will know that Larry Norman passed away a few weeks ago. I still find it hard to credit. He could be a real pain in the arse (can't we all), but boy was he a gifted communicator. And he loved Jesus.

Thre's lots of stuff on youtube about him, but if you nothing about Larry - have a look at the video they showed at his memorial service. It's on his website here.

http://www.larrynorman.com/multimedia.html

It brought back so many wonderful memories and brought a tear to my eye - many tears actually. He was truly one of a kind. In a very real way it also had a profound effect on me. Larry IS gone now, and only what he did for Jesus remains and matters. As I sit here this week trying to figure out the way forward, it's only the lasting things that I will do for and with Jesus that will matter. One day people will blog about me after I am gone (well, hopefully someone will!) and I hope there are lasting things that I have done which will make a difference. Sounds trite but it's so true. It's a lovely city. Big old houses line the streets, music permeates everything and a sense of unity abides in the people. Shared suffering I think it is.

I went and bought a new GPS in Walmart tonight - £75 for a Tom Tom 1! And it worked a treat. I took it out in the car, typed in Chili's, and it took me to my favourite restaurant. The ribs are still unbeatable........

There's something I love about the USA - the food, the weather, the freedom, being away from work and stress, time to think, the cheap prices - or maybe all these things. But in many ways I wish I lived here a bit more than I do.

Talked to the kids on Skype - that was great. Miss them a lot.

For those of you who haven't heard, my brother Mervyn's getting married. Yes, you read that right - Mervyn is getting hitched. June 7th is the big day and I'm really happy for him. Companionship will do him the world of good.

That's about it for tonight - tomorrow I fly to Daytona Beach and drive down to Orlando. Weather is in he mid-80's. And tonight I really felt like a fan. Smitty's Christmas concert here in Dallas was amazing. Beautiful venue, the Catinas on backing, Melinda Doolittle guesting and a 56 piece orchestra in the background. Truly amazing event, people paid from $40 - $100 to attend and I'd be amazed if anyone thought it wasn't worthwhile.
Here's the set list.

Smitty was on top form and looked completely relaxed as usual. I have a dog called Sue - placid old thing - lies around all day getting a bit fatter - never gets too excited. Three days ago the dog warden called at the door - Sue apparently had terrorised some old lady passing my gates. Couldn't have, I thought.
Next day, Dog warden came back. Same again. Now way!, I thought. But then the Dog Warden goes to pet Sue and guess what? Sue snarls at her! I couldn't believe it! And what a person to choose to snarl at - the bleeding Dog Warden!
Yesterday - you guessed it - dog warden's here again. I'm getting worried. Today some of my young staff turn up to get the stuff they need for their job - one goes to pet Sue - Sue tries to bite her. Long story short, in two hours Sue is going to disappear. Breaks my heart to have to do it, but I've no choice. And it makes me really sad to have to take her away. Years of memories gone just like that.

Then I was reading Google news as I do every day. And the Maddy McCann thing is all over the news at the moment. What must those poor parents be going through..... they lost their child - not just their dog.......

As I click through pages about Maddy I come across the story of Morgan Nick.

You've probably never heard of her unless you live in the USA. But Morgan disappeared 11 years ago just like Maddy did. And she's never been found. Google her name and read about her. Put her name in Youtube and watch her video. Ironically the music behind the video is Smitty.

It's really made me think about the plight of missing, abducted and slave children yet again. This world can inflict so much pain on some people, pain that must be all nigh impossible to bear.

I'm gonna miss Sue tonight when she's gone. But I'm gonna hug my kids just that little bit tighter...

Florida

So, what to say about Orlando? We're in an amazing house - 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, huge TV with Premiership beamed in live, 165 TV channels, pool, jacuzzi, just like home! And all for free for the fortnight courtesy of my old boss at the Pru! Thanks Norman.
The prices of things here are DIRT cheap! We're eatiing out for about £23 for the SEVEN of us! That includes unlimited food and drink! Amazing.
We had Taco Bell tonight for supper - £12 for the 7 of us to eat our fill.
I bought Rob Bell's Nooma videos (17 CD's) - they are about £9 each at home - I bought the full set of 17 for £63!!! And it goes on and on. The weak dollar is making everything so affordable.
Laura collapsed with the heat yesterday - Linzi had to carry her down the slope of the mini-golf course she was on - the heat was just too intense. I had already retired after nine holes(three strokes in the lead at the time of course!). It's been between 36 and 39 every day - just like home. Laura was fine after an hour or two and a bottle of rum (water).
I miss the five Romanian girls who are living in my house in Ireland at the moment - and I think about my little circle of friends all the time too - when I get to a good ride in Universal or somewhere I'll think how much I wish McIntyre was here to see it - or I'll see a big pair of humorous boxers in a shop and they'll remind me of Pete!! And I think of all the times Elaine has been here with us.
But even here I can't get away from thoughts of the Third World. Florida is like the consumption capital of the US (at least it seems that way to me) - everyone here looking out for number one and doing their utmost to have a good time. More restaurants than in the whole of Northern Ireland are within five miles of me I bet, no wonder they have huge arses over here! And we're so close to Haiti and the Dominican Republic - two of the most needy countries on earth. Strange world indeed.
Anyway, tomorrow we will go to Typhoon Lagoon - Disney's best water park. Kids are very excited about it. I can never stabd the heat so I'll probably leave around lunch and go cruise the Christian bookshop - Boring old Dad!

Confused

It's been a while......

A couple of days ago I managed to see Amazing Grace, the movie. And what a movie. Make sure you see it. Funny how names like William Wilberforce conjur up images in your mind of old people dressed in suits and speaking in olde English. At least it always did for me. The movie really blew away those preconceptions and showed how Wilberforce and the Prime Minister of his Day (Pitt I think) were young vibrant men with a mission from God. I've always been interested in slavery because of the modern problems with human slavery and found every minute of the film totally captivating.

One theme which resonated with me when an ill Wilberforce was being encouraged by those around him to slow down and get his health back, but he knew God had called him to a life of challenge and service. I still feel the same way about my own life in many ways but i tell you, I've never been so confused.....

One of the reasons I'm confused is this - I've no idea any more what being a Christian means. All my life (until about 5 years ago) I thought my Northern Ireland Presbyterian (with a little bit of Elim and a heavy dose of brethren mixed in, what a cocktail!!) upbringing was 100% right. Strict rules on do's and don'ts, such a strong bible emphasis, a real evangelical. At 18 I thought I had it sorted. I was as tight as the proverbial duck's arse. But life started to challenge those beliefs. Prayers weren't answered for good people around me. Good people died. The church's I had belonged to had ceased to be a real influence, if they ever had been. Then I read Tony Campolo's "Letters to a young evangelical". He could have written that book for me. It challenged everything i'd ever been taught. And it made perfect sense. It almost left me without a foundation.

Then recently I read Shane Claiborne's first and only book to date. What a challenge. To live literally as Jesus had talked about. To give away everything. To forsake most things that the world offers. (Now may be the right time to tell you that I watched Amazing Grace on the plane to Florida for a family holiday. The guilt that this laid on me I can't begin to tell you. Especially after Shane's book.) How the H£$L am I supposed to figure out what God wants from me? Should I sell my girls two ponies and give the money to Compassion to feed the poor? What if that leads my two precious girls into a life of hanging out with bad mates when they would otherwise have been safe and sound in a good environment and on and on..... Should I not be in Florida where I really get the chance to leave a hectic and stressful life behind? Was that a wrong use of money? I honestly don't know the answers....

Then think of this. I have spent a lot of time recently in Romania. About 25 visits probably in the last few years. And built some amazing friendships and mentored a lot of kids. But recently I've began asking myself just how to explain the gospel to them. What is the gospel? How should they react? Is it really a matter of just saying the sinners prayer and being sorry for what we've done? I'm sorry, but I can't buy that anymore. And I know that would devastate some of my Northern Ireland religious friends. They'd think I've gone all liberal. Which in some ways I have.

Then I start to read Rob Bell's Velvet Elvis. What an amazing book. Read it all in the last two days . Totally broadened my horizons and my mind yet again. But in some ways it seems like yet another viewpoint. Another angle to consider which confuses the issue. But in still another way the whole point of the book is that we SHOULD be really struggling with our faith. We should be asking BIG questions. Because our faith's an alive and vibrant thing which moves and changes and flex's. Sacrilidge to all the Drewe's in Northern Ireland. But I believe true none the less.

So here's what I've decided. I'm in Florida now anyway. So best enjoy it. Best give my wonderful kids the time of their lives. Build memories that will last a lifetime. And read some more books as well. And maybe one day I'll understand. Maybe I'll come back to Florida, maybe I won't. But according to Rob Bell, that day may never come when I truly understand....

Get Rob's book and read it. Go to his Mars Hill church website and download some of his sermons. He has mind-blowing teaching in the book about Heaven. Again, teaching which totally challenges what I've always been taught. After I read it earlier tonight I found myself getting out of my bed, quietly walking to the room where my two boys were fast asleep, and sitting in the dark and smiling at them contentedly. Because I know that God is in control.

I hope this hasn't bored you - but I wanted to share my struggles and questions. How to best live as a Christian challenges me every day. I've learned so much recently about what it does and doesn't mean, yet it's still such a challenge to figure it all out. Sleep calls!

(I'll tell you a bit about Florida tomorrow).

New humanity

Every day here in Romania seems to make me a little more human again. Most of the kids who arrived today I already knew, the few I didn't know are little gems. My back didn't hurt today which was a major plus - but just after telling that to Alison on the phone I slipped on a recently mopped tiled floor and thought my hip had popped out to say hello. Boy did it hurt.
These little ones need us so much. It just never ceases to amaze me that they come here for a few days every year and crave our love. They live in a world so devoid of it. I thought before this trip that it may be the last but I know once again that it can't be. So many of these kids are like family. And we are the only family they have. This truly is the kingdom of God out here - next year people - either you're all coming here or we're bringing them all over to Pete's house, It's your decision....

Sorry, one more thing. I really haven't felt the need to preach this year. Just to love. To hug, to listen, to be a warm and open human being. And it's benefitted me as much as everyone else.

In Romania

I've written a few posts on what's happening in Romania on an adjoining blog, but this one's more about what's happening to ME in Romania.
My back has been killing me for two days - right down at the base of my spine. I don't know if it comes from the hip problem or not - but i've made up my mind to go under the knife again and get my other hip replaced. Too many years of constant pain - so next February it'll be back into Belfast. Then at least I'll know if the back problems stem from there.
Been thinking about Pete - for those of you who don't know he has had a double by-pass last week - so please pray for him.
I finished Shane Claiborne's book yesterday - it really challenged me about wealth, possessions and community. And it made me even more sceptical of Northern Ireland "church" I'm afraid. Like Campolo said, take Jesus teaching in the beatitudes and try to set up an organisation completely opposed to thse beliefs, and you would have the church. I'm jealous in some ways of people who love church - who have that genuine community.
I was reading my mates blog, Gary Smith, http://garyideas.typepad.co.uk/, and it's clear how much he loves his church. Lucky fella.
Another interesting thing he talks abut in one of his posts is Duncan Bannatines encounter with God in Romania (he of the Dragon's Den). Read it, it's fascinating.
He also mentions Bannatines tears out here. I've been in tears a lot myself over the last couple of days - tears of searching and tears of anger at God for the hurt that exists here. Hurt that has no earthly justification.
I started to read Rich Mullin's book yesterday and it drove me to tears as well - he had a similar relationship with his father as I did and I've been told recently that I need to deal with that aspect of my past. When I read the letter that Rich had written to himself as if it were from his Dad, I completely broke. So maybe that's something i SERIOUSLY need to consider.
Anyway, there we are. Broken backs and broken hearts. But thank God I still have a Saviour who was broken too. And who doesn't mind worn out cliches....

Romania

If you want t see my Romania blog (mostly of interest to close friends and people who have been here with FFF before, see www.Sinaia2007.blogspot.com

Compassion

As some of you know I am hosting two concerts with Michael W Smith in October. For eight years now I've been involved in Romania, helping out young kids practically, with guidance and hopefully spiritually. It's cost a lot of money, mine and other kind peoples. I've a friend there who spends about £15k per year improving the lives of five severely disabled kids.

But should we be doing that? Wouldn't that money be better spent in South Africa, or Haiti, or Ghana or any one of another 50 countries where lives are on the brink? Where they can't eat, have no homes and don't have water to drink? Or in trying to rescue some of the thousands of human slaves.

Should we just prioritize everything on a basis of strict need? And if we should, should we be spending thousands bringing Franklin Graham to Belfast Odyssey Arena to preach the word to the most evangelised people on the face of the planet? WWJD? Would he have a mission, or would he join Mother Theresa on the front line (if she were still there and not dead!)?

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way criticising the mission. But this relative need thing it's a very valid question that I think we all have to answer in our own lives. I'm feeling less and less inclined to stay in Romania, feel that I'm now wasting resources of money (and just as importantly time) on children who are not truly in poverty (relatively speaking).

I'd be genuinely interested in your thoughts.....

Revenge

If you ever get called by a marketer in the middle of your dinner - here's how to get revenge. While we live lives of affluence and trivia, these kids are abused by the thousands. I still haven't persuaded Steve Curtis Chapman to change his mind and play Belfast on August 2nd. But I'm trying. So I was reading a bit more background material on him to try to find the key to persuading him.

Anyway, I ended up at his adoption site again. And then I clicked on to a page listing little kids waiting for adoption. Little ready made families for someone, normal little boys who love computer games and normal things. But they have no families.

My mind couldn't help but go to my own two little boys. Daniel's 9 (I think!) and Ryan's 6. Today we wrestled, played the computer and hugged a lot. And we went out for dinner. We had fun. And we laughed. What a cruel world that deprives little children of the joy of parental affection. I can't help but imagine my two boys sitting in a home somewhere waiting.......and hoping.....to be loved. It breaks my heart to even think about it.

Give thanks to God tonight that you have a home. That you have parents who love you. And shed a tear for these little kids who have to keep on waiting and hoping.

The web-site is here.

God's calling?

Bear with me on this one.... About three weeks ago I agreed to host a gig with Steve Curtis Chapman. Looks now like the gig has fallen through but that neither here nor there.

As sometimes happens, you know the artist and you know a bit about them, but as soon as you sign a concert you go and dig a bit. Find out what makes them tick, who they really are. It soon became obvious that Steve is driven by the issue of adoption. He has adopted three beautiful little chinese girls (see above)

That really got me thinking about adoption and the chance we have to TOTALLY turn around a life in Jesus' name. I was running this over in my mind for a few days but forgot the issue a little when I went to Glasgow with Third Day. After the gig I'm sitting in the Hilton talking to Brad the guitarist and we're discussing flying. He tells me he's just been to Australia, how long it took and so on, Then he tells me that he's taking his whole family to China next month. "Holiday?" I ask. No, going to collect a little girl we've just adopted, he tells me. I could barely hide my excitement for him. And he could barely contain his. So it was back on my "thought" agenda again.

Yesterday I agreed to host Tony Campolo next May in Belfast, with an American artist called Geoff Moore. Went to Geoff's website - guess what? TWO chinese orphan daughters! I think God's telling me something. Here are Geoff's girls....

Geoff points out that adoption is a perfect picture of God's relationship with us. He chose us, he gave us the rights of His children. He adopted us. Should we be prepared to do any less?

Generosity

Rob Bell who released the Nooma videos is coming to Belfast in a few weeks. Used Brian Houston as support on both gigs and he was a HUGE success. Well, with most people.

Brian's an edgy character and it's strange how church people don't know where to put people like Brian. They don't have a ready made box for him.

He told me last night that when I was first introduced to him about three years ago, he heard mostly negatives about me. I heard the same about him. And we both heard the negatives from other Christians in the music business. Funny how the first things we hear about people are usually the bad things.

Why don't we try for a week just to talk people up instead of down. To emphasise peoples gifts rather than their shortcomings. That would be good.
