Christian Music

A couple of things really caught my eye over the Christmas period in the increasingly strange world of CCM. One was an email from John Schlitt (former lead singer of Petra) offering someone the chance to talk to him on the phone for 15 minutes if they buy his new album. Everyone who bought the album would get a chance to win a 15 minute conversation with John. One can only imagine how that conversation might go.

The other thing which jolted me a little was a look at Carman's website. For those of you who don't know, Carman was a huge light in the industry in the 80's. An amazing live performer. I had come across his name in Bill Gaither's book (didn't know Bill had given him a big break) and thought I'd look up what he was doing now as I hadn't heard of him in a long time.

Never have I seen a site designed so heavily to glorify ones self. He lists achievement after achievement, records and honours listed everywhere. Somewhere in my bible it says, "Seekest thou great things for thyself? Seek them not."

God grant me the wisdom to seek after the things He wants me to have.
